Teaching Experience
My goal is to provide a learning experience that the student will reference in their future studies or higher education. I am very passionate about the natural sciences and I express that in my lecture format and demonstrations. I model learning from the best courses I took, taught by researchers who expressed their love of the subject and used topical demonstrations of their own research in lectures. Bringing research experience in marine biology that ranges from marine mammal physiology to paleoclimate proxies in polar marine algae, I can draw from my background to provide in-depth case studies on biodiversity at multiple scales. I find that grounding my lecture in real life experience makes the lecture topic tangible and accessible to the students, which I value in all teaching whether it is public outreach at a museum or college courses.

As an academic descendant from a long line of natural historians I strongly believe in the power of learning by doing. Simultaneously, in a course I believe it is important to provide a broad knowledge base through lectures and literature. I aim to ensure that the students continue to be interested in the topic at hand I achieve this through active participation in lectures (question and answer using multimedia platforms) and in advanced courses through short term lab or field studies, group work, and paper discussions.
